Pottery for Dummies: Slab is a beginner-friendly, skill-building workshop designed for anyone who wants to understand the fundamentals of working with clay from the ground up. Instead of focusing on a themed project, this class is all about building confidence in the process, perfect for those who feel overwhelmed getting started or want to explore pottery at home.

In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to roll out an even slab, properly score, slip, and seal your pieces, and create strong attachments that hold up through drying and firing. You’ll make a simple functional form while focusing on the “why” behind each step. The goal isn’t just to make something… it’s to understand the foundation so you can keep creating on your own.

All levels welcome, beginners encouraged.

What You’ll Do:

• Use 1.5 pounds of clay to handbuild your own slab project
• Learn simple shaping techniques to form your piece
• Personalize it with texture, stamps, or underglaze color

Class Details:

Location: 2132 E Bijou Street, Downtown Colorado Springs.
Ember & Bloom is located inside a secure building — please park in the back lot and enter through the green door with the wooden staircase. Your instructor will unlock the door for you!

Duration: 2 hours (exact class times vary; please choose below). Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to settle in.

Class Size: Classes require a minimum of 4 people and are capped at 10 people to keep the experience personal and hands-on.
If a class does not meet the minimum, Ember & Bloom reserves the right to refund your purchase, transfer your spot, or combine sessions to ensure a great creative experience for everyone.

Age Requirement: Adults, 18+.

Price Includes: Clay, tools, underglazes, firings, and a fully guided 2-hour class. 

Firing & Pickup:

Your piece will be carefully dried, bisque fired, and glaze fired by the studio.
Please allow 4 weeks for completion. You’ll receive an email once they’re ready, and will have 2 weeks to pick up after notification.
Please opt in for marketing emails to ensure you receive your pickup notification!

Refund Policy:

Cancellations made 7 days or more before class can be transferred to a future session or used as credit toward another workshop.
Refunds are not available for no-shows or cancellations made within7 days class time.
