Ironstone-Black Clay

New Mexico's Ironstone is a newly improved black stoneware clay body with a high iron content, making it magnetically reactive and visually striking. With a medium texture that is easy to work with and won’t stain your hands, this iron-rich clay brings depth and character to your pottery.

At cone 5–6, Ironstone performs reliably while encouraging unique glaze interactions, speckling, and surface effects. Due to its reactive nature, thorough testing is recommended with your chosen glazes and firing schedule. Not recommended beyond cone 7 without prior testing. Locally stocked — no Denver drive.
